Natural Ice Rinks & Black Ice in Pontresina

Pontresina offers a wide range of ice-skating opportunities. The Roseg ice rink features a large natural ice surface, curling rinks, an ice hockey field, and catering facilities. Particularly unique, however, is the rare phenomenon of black ice. It forms when temperatures remain below freezing and no snow falls. Under these conditions, guests and locals glide across the frozen Engadin lakes on freshly sharpened skates—in Pontresina, for example, on Lago Bianco at the Bernina Pass.
Alternatively, prepared ice rinks on the Upper Engadin lakes provide plenty of skating fun. Visitors can go ice skating on Lej da Staz or on Lake St. Moritz, among other locations.
